SYMPTOM(s):
Cannot make ODBC connection or JDBC connection to database anymore
Disconnecting client of dead server message in database log file
Disconnecting dead server (2525)
Server rejects connection on attach
FACT(s) (Environment):
IBM AIX 5.3
OpenEdge 10.1B03 Service Pack
CHANGE:
Installed Java version 1.5 on specific AIX machine hosting the database
CAUSE:
Although the supported JDK/JRE version 1.4.2 was still on the specific machine and java_env still pointing to that version the installation of for OpenEdge version 10.1B03 unsupported Java version changed the PATH environment variable and added the Java 1.5 executables to the PATH. That was causing the SQL Engine executable _sqlexp to die when starting.
FIX:
Remove the Java 1.5 PATH in the .profile file located in /home/root of the AIX machine before starting the database with proserve.
