GOAL:

What is the prostrct builddb command used for?

GOAL:

What does prostrct builddb do to a database?

GOAL:

How to run the prostrct builddb command?

FACT(s) (Environment):

All Supported Operating Systems
OpenEdge 10.1B
OpenEdge 10.1C
OpenEdge 10.2x

FIX:

Use the PROSTRCT BUILDDB utility to recover when an existing database control area (DB) is lost or damaged. The utility re-creates a control area from the structure description (.st) file of an existing database.

Command: prostrct builddb dbname dbname.st

Prior to running the PROSTRCT BUILDDB command please use the PROSTRCT LIST dbname command to update the database structure file with the most recent information. Then rename the original dbname.db file to something else so that if a problem occurs with the PROSTRCT BUILDDB command, you can always restore the original dbname.db file. Would also recommend that a backup of the database be taken prior to using this command.
