NLM and Unix Server: Differences!
The following is a list of the main differences between the NLM and
UNIX Servers.
- The NLM version has no on-line backup.
- The NLM version has no promon.
- The NLM version runs a single server per database.
UNIX versions allow multiple servers executing
concurrently and accessing the database through
shared-memory.
- The NLM version has no background processes such
as page writers, BI writers, and AI writers.
- NLM databases are binary compatible with DOS databases.
UNIX databases are not.
