The SQL server 2008 compatibility mode SQL server 2000 is never tested, however, if Microsoft makes SQL Server 2008 compatibility mode completely compatible with SQL server 2000, then it is possible it will work, as such, if you intend to use this configuration for short term, for example, if you migrate from 9.1E to OpenEdge and SQL server from 2000 to 2008, but can not migrate both Progress and MS SQL server and intend to migrate SQL server 2008 first, it is worth testing it out to see whether there are issues with Progress 9.1E working with MS SQL server 2008 compatibility mode in MS SQL server 2000.
You will need to use MS SQL serve ODBC driver only as 9.1E is certified to use this driver.
