Windows Vista's User Access Control (UAC) is enabled
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows Vista
OpenEdge 10.1x
OpenEdge Category: Installation
CAUSE:
Windows Vista has new security changes which impact how an application runs and what privileges the application runs with.
When a WebClient Application is first installed it may need to register components suchs as ActiveX objects or DLL files. These actions may be denied to standard users under the Windows Vista security model.
CAUSE:
Bug# OE00160856
FIX:
Two workarounds are available:
- disable UAC prior to the installation of the WebClient
- disable UAC prior to the installation of the WebClient Application
- run the web browser as Administrator (right click -> "Run as administrator") on the internet browser icon then access the WebClient installation page or the Webclient Application installation page. If you run the web browser from an icon in your task bar and do not see the "Run as" option when you right click, copy the web browser to your desktop. You should then have the "Run as" option available when you right click the copied browser icon.
