GOAL:

Can I encrypt oracle's user name and password in the connection string?

GOAL:

Is there a way to hide Oracle user's user name and password?

GOAL:

Can I encrypt oracle user name and password only without encrypting everything between the OCI and instance?

FACT(s) (Environment):

All Supported Operating Systems
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x

FIX:

Currently the user name and password can not be encrypted between OE data server and Oracle database.
In 10.2A however, we do allow ids and passwords for Oracle connectivity to be passed to an "external" credentialing system via the Oracle Internet Directory. We have customers who use this for LDAP support. This system uses a feature in Oracle known as EUS, Enterprise User Security, that provides password protection. In as much as EUS provides advanced security options for strong authentication via Kerberos, PKI, etc. and network encryption via RC4, etc., the customer might find a model for the protection they seek.
