Status: Verified
SYMPTOM(s):
Source database activity is being blocked by heavy number of reads on target
Source database activity stalls when having active readers on target (40+)
Updates to source database hangs
Stack trace from _progres reads:
latnap
latSleep
latXlock
latlatch
Replication queue is getting filled up quickly with high number of clients doing reads against target database
promon Status: Database Service Manager shows Total Message Entries = Used Message Entries
promon Status: Database Service Manager shows Free Message Entries = 0 for a prolonged period of time indicating that the Replication Server queue is full.
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
OpenEdge 10.1x
OpenEdge Replication 10.1x
CAUSE:
Bug# OE00166202
CAUSE:
Activity on a OE replication source database might be blocked when the OE replication target database is experiencing heavy read load and replication queue is full.
FIX:
Upgrade to OpenEdge 10.1C01 where the cost of performing replication has been decreased by about 40%, thereby releasing the Replication server queue. Increase the -pica source database startup parameter to increase the Communication Area Size.
