SYMPTOM(s):
promon -F crashes database
Running promon with -F parameter causes database shutdown
Using promon -F brings the database down
SYSTEM ERROR: bad latch wake usr <> latch <> waiting for <> (3710)
FACT(s) (Environment):
Database has been started with "large" -B
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
CAUSE:
When -F is specified (regardless of Progress/OE release), locking in certain critical areas is not performed which could cause unpredictable failures including database crashes.
FIX:
Remove (or don't use) -F with promon against live, working database, -F is there only to use when a database is already unresponsive to get additional information for further analysis.
