GOAL:
Does a PRESELECT QUERY retrieve records from the database in order to build its list of ROWIDs?
GOAL:
Why does a network traffic sniffer tool show that a PRESELECT QUERY reads records from the database to build its result list?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress 8.x
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x
FIX:
A PRESELECT QUERY must read the records that are make up the full result list of the query in order to build the static list of ROWIDs that make up the results. This must be done in order for the client to obtain the ROWID. Once the list is built it is used to navigate through the data.
