8.3 New Features
Progress Version 8.3 features the following enhancements:
- A new 32-bit Report Builder Engine offering a Windows "look and
feel"
- Database scalability to 4,000 concurrent users
- Support for Oracle8 databases through the DataSrver for Oracle on
the Windows NT, AIX, HPUX and Solaris platforms
- Performance improvements to kernel and shared memory
- Readiness features for the Euro monetary unit support
Easy Migration
Progress version 8.3 extends the capabilities and power of the Version
8 family. Now Version 8 users can exploit the rapid growth of the
applications solutions market with a minimum of migration effort
because r-code will not need to be recompiled* and the database
version will not change.
Enterprise-class Scalability and Other Features
Progress Version 8.3 will help customers build faster performing,
easy-to-use applications with a host of new features including a
32-bit Report Builder version, Euro-readiness, and database scal-
ability up to 4,000 concurrent connections.
Oracle 8 Support
The Progress DataServer for Oracle offers efficient access to Oracle 8
databases by supporting database-specific features, commands, and
syntax. Developers can take advantage of Oracle stored procedures,
stored functions, packages and triggers as well as Oracle views,
synonyms, constraints and hints.
