SYMPTOM(s):

When Progress Explorer Tool is started after a new install of Progress, a MMC Snap-in failure is received.

At the end of the Progress install there wasn't a request to reboot the PC.

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress install did not ask for a restart of Windows.
Installing msjavx86 from $DLC/bin/3party directory did not help.
Getting the message "this is not a recognized command" when running jview from a proenv command window.
Windows
Windows XP
Windows Professional 2000
Windows Server 2000
Progress 9.x
OpenEdge 10.x

CAUSE:

The msjavx86.exe did not install, because of an existing msjava.dll, of a much newer version, already existed in the Windows/system32 directory.
When this install is not successful, there will not be a request to restart the system.

FIX:

To install msjavx86.exe do the following:

1. Rename all of the following files that are found in the Windows/system32 directory, jview.exe, wjview.exe, or msjava.dll.
2. Run msjavx86.exe from the $DLC/bin/3party directory.
3. Restart the system after the request is received.
