Status: Verified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Oracle 7.2
Oracle 7.3
Oracle DataServer
Progress 7.x
SYMPTOM(s):
8.1A Progress Client
Progress connects randomly to anyone of the two ORACLE databases, even though the following have been reviewed:
- Correct database parameters.
- Broker started for each ORACLE database.
- Different services in each broker.
- Different Schema holder for each database.
- ORACLE_SID defined for each ORACLE version.
Both DataServer brokers started in the same working directory
CAUSE:
Progress ORACLE DataServer creates a temporary file: PROBSRV.tmp file. The PROBRSV file is used for the newly spawned _ora7srv to communicate with the broker regarding what port to use. This is the cause of the problem; Progress connecting randomly to anyone of the two ORACLE databases.
FIX:
Start the Progress ORACLE DataServer Brokers in different directories.
