SYMPTOM(s):

AdminServer fails to start during machine bootup on Solaris 10

AdminServer startup commands are specified within rc scripts used by Solaris when the machine boots.

proadsv -query shows that the AdminServer is not alive

FACT(s) (Environment):

Problem doesn't occur prior to Solaris 10
AdminServer can be started after the machine has booted
Solaris SPARC 10
Progress/OpenEdge Versions

CAUSE:

Sun Solaris 10 implements many new changes. One of these changes affect the way that the rc scripts are run during bootup.

In versions prior to Solaris 10, rc scripts are run in the order that the files are named.

In Solaris 10, rc scripts are run in the order that is specified within a manifest file. If the manifest file hasn't been updated to reflect correct ordering then the scripts are all run at the same time. This causes the AdminServer to fail because it has not been started after other essential services.

FIX:

Modify the Sun Solaris 10 manifest file so that it can start the rc scripts in the correct order.

Please refer to the Sun Solaris 10 documentation for details.
