Status: Unverified

SYMPTOM(s):

Server where databases reside consume 100% CPU

Processes slowing down on the server where databases are located

Appserver processes were creating small application files on the NFS drive and these files were never deleted.

Once the number of temporary/application files on the NFS drive were exceeding 1000 the database server's CPU would peak to 100%

When remote Appserver processes were stopped the CPU consumption on the database server dropped to normal values

FACT(s) (Environment):

Databases on the single database server service remote Appserver connections from 4 different servers
The database server contains a mapped/NFS drive which was used as the working directory for the remote Appserver processes.
Windows NT 32 Intel/Windows 2000
OpenEdge 10.x

CAUSE:

The exact cause is unknown at the time of this writing

FIX:

Remove the Appserver application files from the NFS drive or use a local drive/directory for the Appserver to use as working/temporary directory
