SYMPTOM(s):

Batch processes crash on ASSIGN statement

ASSIGN updates database field

ASSIGN statement contains long chain of nested IF ... THEN ... ELSE IF ... function calls

No ASSIGN schema triggers defined

FACT(s) (Environment):

Crashes can not be reproduced reliably
OpenEdge 10.1C01 Service Pack
Windows

CHANGE:

Upgraded from 10.0B to 10.1C01

CHANGE:

Speed settings for CPU and RAM in the BIOS were increased (machine was overclocked)

CAUSE:

In it's overclocked state, the machine sometimes fails to allocate memory properly when multiple requests were made in a short timeframe.
Resolving the IF ... THEN ... ELSE functions in the assign would cause such a series of memory requests.

FIX:

Return BIOS settings to default values
