Status: Unverified
SYMPTOM(s):
Cannot connect to a local database using SQL Exploer (_sqlexp) on a Solaris 32 bit machine with shadow password file
[tid10]:error in tcp bind recorded in sql.trc file
Broker does not log any messages to the log file indicating that it is even trying to start an _sqlsrv2 process.
Cannot connect to the database using ODBC
Cannot connect to the database using SQL Explorer (_sqlexp) session
Broker process seems to be spawning _sqlsrv2 process on a port number that is different than the port number range being provided to the broker.
Error: [JDBC Progress Driver]:Error in Network Daemon. (8933)
FACT(s) (Environment):
Solaris SPARC 9 32-bit
Progress 9.1E04 Service Pack
OpenEdge Category: Database
Can connect to the database using 4GL
Can manually spawn an _sqlsrv2 process
_sqlsrv2 process has the correct permissions
Hostname is configured properly
User connecting to the database is the same user that created the database
Issue also occurs with sports2000 database.
Progress 9.1E
There is a firewall on the machine where the database server is running.
Problem occurs when testing connection to SQL Explorer (_sqlexp) locally on the same machine (therefore bypassing the firewall).
-minport and -maxport is being used to specify a port range.
CAUSE:
Bug# OE00171987
FIX:
A workaround for this issue is to add an entry to /etc/services for the database broker to use.
