Winframe, Full screen Character client.
DRAFT COPY - Currently under review and edit.
INTRODUCTION:
=============
Due to limitations in the GUI ICA client it is not possible to setup
the Progress Character client to run in full screen mode. This Kbase
explains a workaround for this problem.
WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS:
===========================
Citrix's Winframe and Microsoft's Terminal Server 1.0 both have the
problem that their 32bit client programs are unable to give a full
screen Command prompt. This has been the way both clients work from
the beginning and in there are little indications on a quick fix.
Still it is possible but requires that these steps are followed.
PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
====================
As this will not work with TCP/IP another protocol has to be set up on
both the Server and the Client side. Remember that this has no
influence on the protocol used with Progress as this should be left as
is on the server.
To setup the protocol on the server side;
Click MAIN-->CONTROL PANEL-->NETWORK-->Add Software
Select the Protocol to installed and configure it according to the
network setup.
Go to the WINSTATION CONFIGURATION and add a NEW configuration for the
new Protocol and open it up to as many users as needed by selecting
"number of configured Winstations".
If any Advanced or Client Settings needs to be set, now is the time.
To setup the Character client to run in full screen mode either create
a batch file and set the properties to full screen or create a PIF
file in the PifEditor (PIFEDIT.EXE). The properties should again be
set to full screen.
This concluedes the server side.
The Client side needs to download and install the DOSCLIENT from
WWW.CITRIX.COM. Even though the interface now is DOS there really is
no difference between this and the GUI Remote Application Manager.
The DOS client will also be able to find any published applications
and any Winframe/Terminal Server servers. Select the correct
application and away it goes in full screen.
