SYMPTOM(s):

Appserver will not start

The shared memory is version 64009129; expected 64009118 (1178)

The shared memory is version <num>; expected <num> (1178)

FACT(s) (Environment):

Specifying a parameter file in the Appserver database connection parameters
Progress 9.1D
Progress 9.1D 64-bit
All Supported Operating Systems

CAUSE:

The parameter file (.pf) is being specified incorrectly or there is something incorrect about the syntax in it. Specifically, the -S parameter in the parameter file is being ignored and so the Appserver tries to connect directly in shared memory, rather than as a remote connection. Since there is not an exact match of Appserver and database versions (as is required for shared memory connections), the error results.

FIX:

Specify the -S parameter directly in the Appserver database connection parameters without the parameter file. If the Appserver starts, create a new parameter file and add the parameters back except -S.
