Status: Verified

SYMPTOM(s):

Unable to extend enough to proceed. (6743)

Restore failed. (1618)

Restore using the structure of the original database fails.

Trying to restore the database to a void database fails.

Running prostrct list dbname verifies that the structure has not changed.

FACT(s) (Environment):

They make use of pipes by passing the source online backup to one end of the pipe while doing prorest to the backup database from the other end of the pipe.
A new void database is created using the structure description file of the original database.
The void database left only 8GB remaining on this file system.
All Supported Operating Systems
Progress/OpenEdge Versions

CHANGE:

Someone was not only removing files on the filesytem where the restore is performed but somehow also lessened the available space.

CAUSE:

The structure description file used is not valid any more for the current filesystem size. The space available on this filesystem can no longer accommodate the required space of this structure.

FIX:

Modify the structure description file to place some of the database files in another location with the needed space.
