SYMPTOM(s):
Starting DB with a high -B and -pinshm causes the entire machine to hang
Trying to start the DB with -B 4000000 -shmsegsize 4g -pinshm causes the entire machine to hang
Trying to start the DB with -B 4000000 -shmsegsize 4g works
-B was set to a very high value (e.g. 4000000)
FACT(s) (Environment):
Machine has sufficient amount of physical memory installed (in this example 42GB of memory were installed)
The following patch for HP-UX 11i v3 is installed: HWEnable11i B.11.31.0803.318a Hardware Enablement Patches for HP-UX

CAUSE:
OS system was unable to provide the database with the amount of non-swappable (-pinshm) Shared Memory it requested
FIX:
Install the following patch for HP-UX 11i v3:
