GOAL:
Can a database be migrated from HP-UX PA-RISC to Itanium without a dump and load ?
GOAL:
Are PA-RISC based OpenEdge executables supported on an Itanium system under the PA-RISC emulator?
FACT(s) (Environment):
OpenEdge 10.0B
OpenEdge 10.1B
OpenEdge 10.1C
HP-UX 11 64-bit
OpenEdge Category: Database
FIX:
It is not necessary to dump and load an OpenEdge database when migrating from HP-UX PA-RISC to HP-UX Itanium (or vice versa) provided that the same major version of OpenEdge is in use and supported on that HP-UX version. This is the only supported migration between RISC and ITANIUM without the need for a Dump and Load, irrespective if this is 64-bit or 32-bit PA-RISC to 64-bit Itanium database.
32-bit r-code must be recompiled against the 64-bit product. 64-bit R-Code made on either an HP-UX Itanium and / or HP-UX PA-RISC is compatible between these two platform types.
However, OpenEdge PA-RISC based OpenEdge executables are not supported on the Itanium system under the PA-RISC emulator. The appropriate OpenEdge licenses for PA-RISC and Itanium need to be installed on each server. Ensuring that the environment variables are pointing to the correct installation that the database is started under, the database should function as expected. The PA-RISC executables for OpenEdge are not supported on and will not work correctly under the PA-RISC emulator that HP provides on Itanium. The Itanium OpenEdge executables are required for the Itanium platform.
