How do Featured Item rules work in EasyAsk?

GOAL:

How are Featured Item Weights calculated in EasyAsk?

FACT(s) (Environment):

EasyAsk 10.1

CAUSE:

When you define a Featured Item rule, you should also set a Weight for that rule. There are five possible settings, and each is associated with a numeric weight:
- Very High (10000)
- High (1000)
- Medium (100)
- Low (10)
- Very Low (1)
The Featured Item weight for an individual product is the sum of weights for all the rules that apply to it. If a product matches one Very High rule and two Medium rules, the total Featured Item weight would be 10200 (10000 + 100 + 100). A product matched by only one Very Low rule would have a Featured Item weight of 1. Products that are not matched by any Featured Item rule have a weight of 0.
The recommendation is that Featured Item rules be as general as possible, and that most Featured Item rules have weights of High, Medium or Low. You should reserve Very High and Very Low settings for exception cases, such as short-term high-visibility promotions.
Another technique is to double the weight of a rule by entering it twice. If you have three rules with High weights, but you want one to be even higher than the other two (but not Very High), just repeat that rule with a High setting, and its products will have 2000 added to their total weight instead of 1000.

If you want Clearance products to fall at the end of an EAScore level, you might think that a Featured Item rule of ?Clearance? with a Very Low weight would work. However, this allows non-Clearance products with weight = 0 to appear below Clearance products (weight = 1). To correctly weight the Clearance products, you should define a Featured Item rule ?not Clearance? with Very Low weight. This would insure that all non-Clearance products had a weight >= 1. Any Clearance products that did not fit one of the other Featured Item rules would have a weight = 0, and would drop to the bottom of the list for products with the same EAScore.
If the Display Order is:
- EAScore (descending)
- Featured Items (descending)
- Minimum Sale Price After Sales (ascending)
products with the highest EAScore would appear first. Among products with the same EAScore, products with higher Featured Item weights would appear before products with lower weights. Products with the same EAScore and Featured Weight would be sorted by Minimum Sale Price After Sales from low to high.
