FACT(s) (Environment):

Windows XP
OpenEdge 10.1B

SYMPTOM(s):

Parts of screen are slow to display while SmartDataObjects (SDO) are initializing.

Buttons appear immediately.

SmartDataBrowser, SmartDataViewer appear after a 15-30 second lag.

"Rebuild dataset on reposition" check box is unchecked on SmartDataObjects (SDO).

Dataset used to populate the SmartDataBrowser is large.

Application contains FIND LAST statement in the code to initialize the SmartDataObject (SDO) used to populate the SmartDataBrowser.

CAUSE:

Because "Rebuild dataset on reposition" is unchecked, OpenEdge must work through the entire dataset to reach the desired records before it can display the SmartDataBrowser and SmartDataViewer.

FIX:

Check the "Rebuild dataset on reposition" box on the SmartDataObject (SDO) used to populate the SmartDataBrowser and SmartDataViewer.
