Status: Verified
SYMPTOM(s):
PSDN Demo file (xptaskbarmdicontainersample.exe) fails to install
Unable to retrieve DLC value. No supported Progress version found!
OE10.1B installed
Demo downloaded from http:/www.psdn.com/library/entry.jspa?externalID=1255&categoryiID299 (Making the OpenEdge GUI More Competitive: XP Taskbar MDI Container White Paper)
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
OpenEdge 10.x
CAUSE:
Demo installation script was tested with OE10.0A, OE10.0B and OE10.1A and expects one of these versions to be installed.
FIX:
Install OE10.0A, OE10.0B or OE10.1A or temporarily edit the Registry entries from eg. OE10.1B to OE10.1A.:
IMPORTANT: Before you manually edit keys in the Registry, it is recommended to create a backup of the related section(s) of the Registry. Make sure you are able to restore your Registry. Refer to Microsoft's Knowledge base for detailed information on backing up and restoring Registry entries.
Export the OE10.1B registry hive (HKLM/Software/PSC/) and edit the export file. Rename all 10.1B instances to 10.1A (NOT the actual key values, just the keys themselves) and import back into registry. This should trick the installer because it can find a supported OpenEdge version, which then still points to the 10.1B installation.
After installing the DEMO the changes made to the Registry as described above should be reversed.
The installation script will create the "C:\Program Files\OpenEdge GUI Demo" directory where the demo files will be located.
