Using the SUBSTRING statement to replace a portion of a LONGCHAR variable
The length adjustment caused by SUBSTRING is not reflected by the LENGTH function
LENGTH function returns a value equal to the original length of the variable i.e. the length of the variable as it was before the use of the SUBSTRING statement
Copying the contents of the LONGCHAR variable to a file shows that space equal to the original length of the variable has been allocated
