GOAL:

When were long dump file names introduced?

GOAL:

In which version long dump file names were introduced?

FIX:

Long dump file names were introduced to the data dictionary in Open Edge 10.1B.
Prior to Release 10.1B, the Data Dictionary restricted the "Dump Name" property of any table on an OpenEdge database to 8 characters The "Dump Name" is the name for the dump file used when dumping or loading data from a .d file (the .d extension is added automatically).
OpenEdge 10.1B removes this restriction; it is no longer necessary to enforce this limit in the product since there are no supported OS?s that enforce this restriction themselves. Table names in OpenEdge can be up to 32 characters, so the Dictionary will allow 32-character dump names. The Dump File fill-in has been extended, and the "Hidden" and "Frozen" toggle boxes have been moved to the line below. This change effects Data Dictionary (GUI) and Data Admin (TTY).
On TTY, in the Data Administration tool, the dialogs affected are "Add New Table" and "Modify Table", which are accessible through the "Schema" menu. Field sizes for the "Dump File" fill-in have been increased to allow 32 characters.
The default dump name, when creating a new table, remains as the table name, and no spaces are allowed in the Dump name.
The Data Dictionary and Data Admin tools provide reports to view schema definitions, accessible through the Database -> Reports menu.
The following reports have had their layout changed to account for the new dump file size: "Detailed Table" and "Quick Table".
