Netscape 3.x Web Servers with WebSpeed and IE 4.x Browsers

There have been problems reported using Netscape 3.x web servers
with WebSpeed applications. Everthing seems to work fine,
except that IE 4.x browsers hang on each page and eventually
time out with an error "Internet Explorer cannot open the
Internet site http://<URL> The connection with the server was
reset." This problem has only been seen with IE 4.x browsers.

Testing seems to indicate the problem is due to Netscape's
implementation of HTTP 1.1 persistent connections. To fix the
problem, you must start the Netscape configuration utility and
go into Server Preferences -> Performance Tuning -> Advanced
Settings and set "HTTP Persistent Connection Timeout:" to 0.
This seems to be a generic problem with NS 3.x servers running
CGI applications and IE 4.x browsers. Please note that this fix
was found to work with limited testing by Progress Technical
Support. There may be unknown consequences for your
application, especially if your site makes use of HTTP 1.1
persistent connections. If you choose to implement this, please
test your application thoroughly.
