GOAL:
What will Progress say if I'm using unsupported / uncertified versions of Java?
FACT(s) (Environment):
All Supported Operating Systems
FIX:
Progress / OpenEdge does not typically re-certify patches to Operating Systems or components such as Java. It is expected that Operating Systems and 3rd party packages will be backwards compatible.
When Progress releases new versions, new functionality may be added in the newer versions. The addition of new functionality may cause us to use newer versions of 3rd Party components such as Java. At those times Progress will certify against whatever version of the 3rd party component is necessary to provide the functionality we require for our new functions.
When customers attempt to use 3rd Party components outside our realm of knowledge, it is expected that the customer rigorously tests those objects before deployment. Often during testing, the customers will open tickets to Technical Support if they encounter problems.
Progress reserves the option to require the customer to revert to a certified version of OS and / or 3rd party components.
If customer experience instability when using uncertified versions of 3rd Party components then certified versions should be tested to see if stability is restored.
