DOS 6.0 Certified; SMARTDRIVE and DISK COMPRESSION - stacker
PROGRESS works with DOS 6.0. It has been fully certified by the
Progress Software QA group.
This notebook entry describes some special considerations for the
DOS SMARTDRIVE disk caching utility and the disk compression DOS
Double-Space Stacker.
If your before-image file is on a drive that is cached by
SMARTDRIVE, or any other disk caching utility, shut off the write
caching (or Lazy Write) to ensure integrity. On the SMARTDRIVE line of
the autoexec.bat file, add the letter of the drive for which you want
to shut off write caching. For example:
c:\dos\smartdrv.exe C
To maintain integrity, PROGRESS needs to make "raw" writes to the
before-image file. Therefore, do not place the BI file on a drive
that is compressed. The database file can remain on a compressed
disk, but not the BI file. DOS's Double-Space creates both a
compressed and an uncompressed drive. Move the BI file to the
uncompressed drive.
