SYMPTOM(s):

Getting 1176 error starting database from AdminServer.

Database starts from command line using proserve without error.

Value set for sharedmemoryoverflowsize in fillin field of Progress Explorer.

Value set for sharedmemoryoverflowsize in conmgr.properties file.

Database can be started from AdminServer using -Mxs value set in otherserverargs fillin in field in Progress Explorer.

Database can be started using proserve script using all parameters defined in conmgr.properties.

FACT(s) (Environment):

All Supported Operating Systems
OpenEdge 10.1B

CAUSE:

The problem is related to the entry in the congmr.properties for "sharedmemoryoverflowsize" which is a new entry in the conmgr.properties beginning in 10.1B.

In the past a value could be set to define the Shared Memory Overflow size using the command line parameter -Mxs and the entry would have to be placed in the "Other Server Arguments" fillin field within Progress Explorer or in the entry for "otherserverargs entry" in the conmgr.properties.

FIX:

A workaround exists to remove lines within the conmgr.properties containing
sharedmemoryoverflowsize=<value>

To define a value for this parameter add an entry to the otherserverargs= line within the conmgr.properties or the Other Server Arguments fillin field within the Progress Explorer.
