SYMPTOM(s):
Error connecting to database
Database name is correct.
Disconnected from server because database name was incorrect. (437)
Ports are not blocked by a firewall.
Progress DLC path in the registry is C:\Program Files\Progress
Putting double quotes around PATH entry, "C:\Program Files\Progress", in the registry did not help.
Users that login directly on to the Windows Server (not involving the Progress database) get a popup FILE NAME WARNING message that says " There is a file or folder on your computer called "C:\program" which could cause certain applications to not function correctly. Renaming it to "C:\program1" would resolve this problem. Would you like to rename it now? with two buttons "RENAME" and "IGNORE". The file or folder that Windows is having problems with at this time is not clear, however, this file/folder ambiguity was causing problems for other applications other than Progress, that were on this host.
FACT(s) (Environment):
Progress 9.1E
Windows 2003
Windows 2000
CAUSE:
Users always responded "IGNORE" to FILE NAME WARNING.
FIX:
There are two solutions:
1. Edit the DLC path in the registry for Progress to use Progra~ in place of Program Files
example: "C:\Progra~1\Progress"
or
2. Find the file or folder that is causing the ambiguity problem for Windows and rename it to something that will not cause a problem.
