Below is the compatibility chart for Client/Server compatibility for an Appserver. Any combination that is not on the chart is not supported. Please note that the NameServer follows the same compatibility rules as the Server listed below.
Client Version
AppServer Version
Progress 9.1E
Progress 9.1E, OpenEdge 10.0x, 10.1x and 10.2x
OpenEdge 10.0x
Progress 9.1E*, OpenEdge 10.0, 10.1x and 10.2x
OpenEdge 10.1x
Progress 9.1E*, OpenEdge 10.0x, 10.1x and 10.2x
OpenEdge 10.2x
Progress 9.1E*, OpenEdge 10.0x, 10.1x and 10.2X
* A 10.1B | 10.1A | 10.0B client can work with a 9.1E AppServer provided that the new functionality of OpenEdge 10.1B, 10.0B or 10.0A client is not attempted with the 9.1E AppServer. In other words: Provided that only Progress Version 9 functionality is used.
The same rules apply for .NET client, for example, If a Version 10.1B .NET client passes Version 9 temptables, OpenEdge 10.0x and 10.1x will map these to ADO.NET data tables. ProDataSet functionality is not supported in this configuration.
.Net client version
AppServer Version
OpenEdge 10.0x
Progress 9.1E*, OpenEdge 10.0x
OpenEdge 10.1x
Progress 9.1E*, OpenEdge 10.0x and 10.1x
OpenEdge 10.2x
Progress 9.1E*, OpenEdge 10.0x, 10.1x and 10.2x
Administration of a server is associated with the server itself and therefore they must be the same version. Hence, the Administration tools associated with the Open AppServer (including the Progress Explorer, and Admin Server used to administer the OpenAppServer) must be the same version, including Service Pack level as the Server Version listed in the chart above.
