Progress 8.2 Batch Installs (Win32)
DRAFT COPY - Currently under review and edit.
INTRODUCTION:
=============
This kbase discusses the batch install of Progress 8.2 on the Win32
platform.
WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS:
===========================
For sites with a large number of users, the batch install will take a
lot of time and effort out of deploying Progress to all the PCs.
PROCEDURAL APPROACH:
====================
The batch install feature (for Win32 Progress 8.2X) is described on
section 2.4 (page 2-19) of the Installation Notes. This describes
how to set up and run the Progress Setup Utility in batch mode.
The batch install feature of Progress is only supported for the
normal (type=quick) install. The batch install does not support
custom installs. These must be performed interactively.
The Shared Network Install(network install) was introduced in 82C.
This installation does not support a batch mode. This install
type allows the sharing of an existing 82C install by:
1) populating the registry with the progress.ini data from the
initial installation after modifying the destination paths
based on the local machines current drive mappings.
2) copying the shared files from the
<initial install destination>\bin\system to the WINSYSDIR
(windows system directory) on the local machine and then
registering the necessary files.
3) creating a program group and icons on the local machine
that point to the initial install destination path.
