Environment variables for older version of Progress / OpenEdge still present during installation of newer version of Progress / OpenEdge
CAUSE:
The InstallShield installation routine can become confused when environment variables for older versions of Progress / OpenEdge exist during installation. InstallShield may put invalid references in files or registry due to conflicts in the environment caused by entries in environment variables.
FIX:
Remove references from environment variables which point to older versions of Progress / OpenEdge prior to attempting installation.
If a newer version of Progress / OpenEdge was installed while older, conflicting, environment variable references existed it will most likely be necessary to manually uninstall.
Since many operating systems cache some installation, it is adviseable to reboot the system after removing environment variable references to older versions of Progress / OpenEdge and manually uninstalling the newer version of Progress / OpenEdge.
