Is Progress/OpenEdge supported on Windows Mobile?

GOAL:

Is Progress/OpenEdge supported on PocketPC?

GOAL:

Is Progress/OpenEdge supported on PDA handheld devices?

FACT(s) (Environment):

Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
Windows Mobile CE

FIX:

There is no Progress build for PDA/PPC/Windows Mobile and neither are there any plans to implement this in our product.

Using a Progress DOS version (v6 or v7) may run with limited functionality. PocketDOS would need to be installed, Progress for DOS transferred to the PDA, then engage DOS emulator and within that session start the Progress 6/7 interface. This option would not be supported however due to the lack of certification of versions 6 and 7 (both of which are Retired) on PocketDOS.
Here are the other alternatives:
- Use WebSpeed and run application in browser on hand-held (this is only a partial solution as it requires network connectivity at all times).
- Use WebSpeed and a combination of emerging technologies (such as Google Gears) to persist and synchronise data/web-pages for occasionally connected systems
- Write Client using .NET/JAVA and use OpenClient technology or WebServices to communicate with OpenEdge AppServer (requires network connectivity at all times to communicate with AppServer)
- Write Client using .NET/JAVA and use MQ SQL Lite to persist data, use in-built MSN Queues to call WebServices/Sonic to synchronize data back to OpenEdge (via AppServer)
- Write Client using .NET/JAVA and install Sonic on device (including Client persistence) data synchronization is performed using Sonic and OpenEdge AppServer technologies
