GOAL:
How to perform custom installation of Client Application with Progress Software?
FIX:
Progress does not advocate or endorse a particular installation utility, however, Progress uses InstallShield and has added functionality to allow Application Developers the capability to integrate a custom application deployment with the Progress installation.
Other install utilities may be used with Progress. Progress Software Technical Support may not be familiar with 3rd Party Applications other than InstallShield.
The OpenEdge install can be integrated into an Application installer by having the Application installer launch the OpenEdge installer silently using the setup.exe with the -s switch (proinst with the -s switch on Unix).
The "silent" option allows an installation to occur in a non-interactive fashion. This means that any required information normally provided interactively through installation wizard dialogs is read from a file instead.
This file is called a response file.
