FACT(s) (Environment):
Installing Progress.
Windows XP
Progress was uninstalled manually.
OpenEdge 10.x
Progress Registry entries manually removed.
SYMPTOM(s):
While installing Progress the installation appears to hang with a dialog box indicating "Setup is modifying ini files"
Filemon shows setup trying to modify the ubroker.properties file
FIX:
Look for a java process in Task manager started as user. Make sure it is not part of a critical application that may be running, then kill it.
The customer may have other applications or processes running while trying to install Progress, if one of those processes uses java then there may be problems since progress also installs java components.
