Installation of JAVA on HP for Skywalker Progress 9 Beta
Instructions for installing the Java required components for
Progress Version 9 Beta 1
on HP

Note: Several various download modules are listed on this page for
immediate download.
The correct download module to acquire is..
*** -Download HP-UX Developer's Kit for Java ***
This is a compressed tar file that needs to be uncompressed and
untarred after placement to an appropriately diskful directory
location.
Before the configuration of this on the HP system, the HP specific
utility "swremove" should be used to determine if there are any
previous JAVA types installed to the system.
As listed in the Progress Version 9 Release Notes, the JAVA required
ersion is JDK1.1.3.0.4.
It is vitally important that this exact version be used as even the
JDK1.1.3.0.2 is not sufficient.
The below listed pictorial indicates that the correct software
versions have been installed...

In order to install the Java components, the swinstall command from
HP/UX is the method of accomplishing this.
The first item to choose in the menu below that appears after invoking
the swinstall command is "Source Depot Type:".
This will have to be changed from the default [Network Directory
/CDROM] to [Local Directory].
As a result of this change, the correct path will need to be put
"Source Depot Path.." field.

At this point, the bundles and software is listed..
| Java-Dev-Kit1-1 -> C.01.13.04 Java Developers..
| Java-Runtime1-1 -> C.01.13.04 Virtual Machine..

-The next step is to "mark for install" both bundles from the "Action"
pulldown menu after selecting each.
-Then, under the pulldown "Options", choose "Change Options".
Checkoff the option..
[X] Reinstall filesets even if same revision exists
Uncheck the option..
[ ] Mount filesystems in /etc/fstab or /etc/checklist
Then tab over to the [OK] option.
Finally, from the "Action"pulldown menu, choose "Install (analysis)...
"
This will install the Java modules relative to the /opt directory as
/opt/java.
At this point the PATH var should be supplemented with both /opt/java
and /opt/java/bin.
This completes the installation of the JAVA modules to the HP system.
