1078 errors using 100 megabit network cards.

INTRODUCTION:

If customers are experiencing 1078 error messages from their clients
after changing from 10 mgbit cards to 100 mgbit cards, there are a few
items to check for. Ping and telnet may or maynot be working in this
case.

POSSIBLE CAUSE OF ERROR:

Two possibilites exist that make sense.
1) Network software errors. Strip out the network software from the
client and reinstall network software.
2) Ping and telnet are 32-bit utilites. They use either ws2_32.dll
(winsock 2 - 32 bit) or wsock32.dll (winsock 1 - 32 bit) Older
copies of progress are 16 bit and use winsock.dll. This dll may
be damaged or be missing. Check / replace this dll or move to a
32 bit version of Progress
