FACT(s) (Environment):
Crystal Reports
SYMPTOM(s):
Attempting to simplify report creation in Crystal Reports
Setting Show Description option to show field description via File > Options > Database > Table and Fields
Changing setting has no effect and no field descriptions are displayed
Crystal Reports documentation states that the option should do the following:
Show Description
If you select this option, the program identifies tables and fields using the description you have specified, for example, "Our Clients" table and "The names of all our customers" field.
Same problem occurs using ODBC connection to Microsoft SQL Server
Same problem occurs using Native and ODBC connections Microsoft Access
CAUSE:
The problem is not specific to the Progress/OpenEdge database and ODBC driver so appears to be a bug in the Crystal Reports
FIX:
Option #1
Contact Business Objects Technical Support for further assistance.
Option #2
Create a Crystal report based on database system tables that will display the table together with its fields and their descriptions. Users can use the results from this report as a guide during report creation.
