GOAL:

What is Progress's stance regarding support and Bull AIX

GOAL:

Does OpenEdge support or certify Bull AIX

GOAL:

Are the any compatibility problems between OE10.1B 64bit and Bull AIX / Bull Hardware.

FACT(s) (Environment):

IBM AIX
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family

FIX:

Bull AIX 5L is a combination of Linux and AIX. Although the Bull's web site: http://www.bull.com/aix/high/index.html doesn't /*explicitly*/ give AIX compatibility information, the literature seems to imply that Bull AIX (ver) is compatible with IBM AIX (ver) eg Bull 5L with AIX 5.1

While we do not officially certify BULL AIX, given the above information, we recommend that the BULL AIX <ver> package is checked with the provider that it contains the relevant Progress OpenEdge supported IBM AIX <ver> OS, which is a certified and supported Progress operating system as per our documentation in the Product Availablility Guide (PAGR) available from the Progress Support landing page: www.progress.com/support

For example:
AIX 5L 5.3 (TL-7) (OpenEdge 10.0B+)
AIX 6.1 (OpenEdge 10.1B+)
AIX 7.1 (OpenEdge 10.2B+)

(instfix -i| grep ML would verify that any ML's documented in the PAGR or provider's instruction are applied)

If intending to run the Bull cluster management software, example: running 10.1B 64-bit in a cluster environment to be able do failover, from the Progress perspective the only supported way is to implement OpenEdge Cluster Manager Integration (available with OpenEdge Enterprise database license only) which is certified against the IBM HA Cluster (HACMP) 5.3 - for OpenEdge 10.1B and above (32Bit & 64Bit) with Active/Standby where the nodes don't share memory, only ownership over a shared disk. Again, the certified IBM Cluster are listed in the PAGR cited above.
