Apptivity - Lookup List Lookup Rows vs. Data Source Max Rows
This kbase describes the purpose of specifying a value for
Lookup Rows in the properties of a Lookup List and contrasts
Lookup Rows with the value of Max Rows for a Data Source.
Since there is a limit to the amount of data that can be loaded
into a choicelist control, it is important that the data that is
loaded into a lookup list fit within that bound. The Lookup Rows
value for a Lookup List is the mechanism that is used to limit
the amount of data that is loaded into a Lookup List.
If the query associated with a dynamic or static Lookup List
returns too many rows and Lookup Rows is not set appropriately,
the Lookup List may not accommodate all of the data returned by
the query.
The value of Lookup Rows is the number of values (rows) that will
be transferred from the query results set to the Lookup List.
How does this differ from the setting of Max Rows for the Data
Source associated with the Lookup List? Max Rows indicates the
maximum number of rows of data that the query results set will
contain.
The value of Lookup Rows restricts the number of values that will
loaded into the Lookup List and therefore displayed in the choicelist
control with which the Lookup List is associated. This restricted
set of values is taken from the results set which is itself
restricted to Max Rows rows.
