GOAL:
Must the source and target database reside on the same platform?
FIX:
Once Fathom Replication is configured and running, it will propagate any source database changes to the target database.
The following guidelines apply in order for the Fathom Replication to function properly:
? For safety, the target database should reside on a different machine than the source.
? Both the source and the target machines must have the same endian ordering. Endian
ordering refers to the order in which multi-byte numbers are stored in memory. Typically,
UNIX machines and Windows machines use different endian ordering for storage.
Therefore, a Windows source database can be replicated to another Windows machine, but
not to an HP-UX machine. An HP-UX source database can be replicated to another HP-UX
machine.
