Status: Unverified
FACT(s) (Environment):
Crystal Reports
SYMPTOM(s):
Creating new reports in Crystal Report
No Links are displayed between tables in the Links tab of the Database Expert
Using XML file as a datasource
The report works slower with no Links defined
Problem does not always occur
Links are present if ODBC DSN is used as the datasource
CAUSE:
This issue is related to Crystal functionality rather than being a Progress issue. Crystal Reports uses a "best guess" feature when creating Links rather than checking the database for existing indexes and linking tables based on them. If no links appears (and Automatic Smart Linking is turned on in Crystal Reports XI) then this would suggest that Crystal Reports was unable to determine fields that could be linked.
FIX:
Option #1
In Crystal Reports XI, go to File > Options and select the Database tab. Ensure that the Automatic Smart Linking box is checked and re-test.
Option #2
Create Links manually. Any Links defined in this way will be saved in the report definition file.
