8.2C Windows Release Notes - Shared Network Installation

Version 8 Release
Release: 8.2C
Ports: Windows
Date: April 1998

1. Installation
1.1 Read the On-line Release Notes

It is important to read the on-line release notes. They are the
primary release notes. The hard-copy release notes supplement
them, but do not replace them.
The on-line release notes are on the distribution medium as two
files: readme.wri, which is in Windows Write format, and readme.pro,
which is in ASCII (text) format. The two files have identical content.

There are several ways to read the on-line release notes:
- On Windows platforms, run File Manager, then click on readme.wri
or readme.pro.
- On UNIX platforms, view readme.pro using cat, emacs, vi, or your
favorite text editor.
- On all platforms, start the PROGRESS Installation Utility, then
select the Release Notes button.

Overview of the Shared Network Installation
1.2.1 Before you begin
1.2.2 Performing a PROGRESS shared network installation
1.2.3 Uninstalling the PROGRESS shared network installation

---------------------------------------------------------------------

1.2.1 Before you begin
This describes information you need to install system files on your
client machine and share an existing PROGRESS installation on your
network. The shared network installation is only supported on Windows
95 and Windows NT versions 3.51 and 4.0.

Before you begin the shared network installation, note the following
information:
- If you have PROGRESS installed on your client machine, you must
uninstall it before performing a shared network installation.

- Be sure that PROGRESS Version 8.2C is installed on your server
machine and that you have access to it before performing a shared
network installation on your client machine.

- Map a network drive to the server where PROGRESS is installed.

- Shut down any applications that are running.

- The complete set of files necessary to run the Shared Network
Installation Utility uses 3.5 MB of disk space. The files are copied
to your \Windows\System32 directory (or \Windows\System directory
on Windows 95). Some of these files might already exist in your
system directory.

- For further information about installing PROGRESS, see the PROGRESS
Version 8.2C Windows NT and Windows 95 Installation Notes.
