GOAL:
Can procontrol and proservice be killed without causing the database to shutdown?
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress 9.x
Progress 8.x
FIX:
ProService and ProControl (the graphic user interface to ProService) operate somewhat independently of the processes spawned by ProService.
After ProService has started any database, DataServer, AppServer or WebSpeed Brokers the process known as ProService (prosrvc.exe) can be killed without causing the processes ProService spawned to die.
However, if a new ProService process is started it will not be able to communicate with the processes spawned by the prior ProService process.
