GOAL:
Are there any known issues with Microsoft security patches
GOAL:
Are there any known issues with hotfixes in Progress
FACT(s) (Environment):
Windows
Progress/OpenEdge Product Family
OpenEdge Category: Database
FIX:
We do not certify our Product against OS vendor's updates. Any particular details that may apply are listed in the Product Availability Guide and Reference available through our website: www.progress.com/support.
We rely on:
a.) Vendor guarantees of backward compatibility (as appropriate)
b.) Our customer's IT department in understanding the impact of the updates and hotfixes on their environment - each update is documented on the Microsoft site - with particular reference to the co-dependencies that may be listed.
c.) If and when there is 'something' that particularly relates to the Progress core environment, then we send alerts on our website. You can subscribe to these online at:
http://progress.atgnow.com/esprogress/jsp/SubscriptionServices.jsp?queryForm=SubscriptionLogin.jsp
Most of these security updates are indeed resulting from issues that have been reported to Microsoft concerning (for example) security breaches that need to be fixed on their side. eg: accounts with Local Administrative privileges.
If there's anything in particular issue that has been introduced to your environment, since applying changes at the OS level (ie updates), then the logical next actions are to:
- review the notes again and understand additional actions that may be needed (for example, excluding the Progress environment from the scanning tools while Progress utilities are in use)
- contact Microsoft with details of your case
- contact us with the specifics to find if it has been previously reported or to assist the Progress community with future incidents.
The most current Microsoft Security patches are available through the Microsoft's Update site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
