Troubleshooting WINSOCK errors with Microsoft Proxy Server
Microsoft's Proxy Server includes a new WINSOCK.DLL that replaces
the original WINSOCK.DLL that was included with Windows 95 and
Windows NT. This new WINSOCK has created problems for many
applications, including Progress. Microsoft has a number of articles
on their Web site about the various WINSOCK problems and is adding
new articles frequently.
If you are experiencing WINSOCK errors on a site that is using
Microsoft Proxy Server, start first with Microsoft's document
"General Troubleshooting for Winsock Proxy Client Problems." On the
date this Knowledge Base entry was written, that document was
available at:
http://support.microsoft.com/Support/proxy/faq/apps/107.asp?PR=PRS&FR=
0&M=S&
Next, search on Microsoft's Web site for the words PROXY and
WINSOCK to find the latest documents.
Finally, read Progress Knowledge Base 17740: "MicroSoft Proxy Server
for NT with Win95 winsock.dll" for information on how to fix one
specific problem created by the new WINSOCK.DLL.
