GOAL:
OpenEdge Replication: What is the difference between transition and failover
FACT(s) (Environment):
Fathom Replication
OpenEdge 10.1x
OpenEdge 10.2x
All Supported Operating Systems
FIX:
The term Transition is used when the connection between the source and target databases are broken, and you wish to transition the database (either source or target) to the mode specified within the dbname.repl.properties file. The mode is either reverse or normal.
Normal will transition the database to a normal database with no replication running.
Reverse will reverse the role. i.e. A source database would become a target or a target become a source.
The term Failover is used when both the source and target databases are still connected, and you wish to reverse the roles of the databases. Triggering failover will cause replication to automatically go through the required steps to reverse the roles based on information specified within the dbname.repl.properties files.
