GOAL:
Is there a way to recover an emptied AI file to its previous state?
FIX:
Once an AI file is emptied, there is no way to recover it back to its original state.
- If an AI file is variable, then when it is emptied it is simply replaced by a newly-created file.
- If an AI file is of fixed size, the blocks in the file get zeroed (as can be seen with cmp and Ultraedit)
It is therefore important to backup your AI files before marking them empty.
